CATSA conducting temperature screening at YEG&YXE;

Starting September 23, at 10:00 a.m., the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) will be conducting mandatory temperature screening, prior to entering security, for all passengers travelling on commercial and charter flights for Edmonton (YEG) and Saskatoon (YXE) airports.

We’re glad to work with CATSA to help facilitate this and ensure the safety of all passengers.

The screening is mandatory for all staff and tenants as well as passengers.

Anyone with a temperature of 38 degrees or higher will be asked to wait, and then have a second check done 10 minutes later. If the second check shows an elevated reading, the person will not be allowed through the checkpoint and will not be allowed to return for 14 days.

Below is the step by step process that will happen

  • Temperature taken

  • Green – you are good to go!

  • If you fail the first initial test, you will be asked to wait 10 minutes

  • If second test shows ‘green’ you may proceed

  • If second tests show ‘red’, CATSA will notifies the airline

  • You will be asked to speak with a CATSA supervisor and will be told that you are not permitted to board an aircraft in Canada for 14 days, unless you present a medical certificate.

  • The supervisor will collect some basic information and if you have checked baggage, they will direct you back to the WestJet to collect it; otherwise you will be directed to leave the airport.

  • If you are deemed unable to fly, you must notify your Suncor leader and your leader will advise you on next steps. We ask that you safely return home and contact Suncor’s Health & Wellness group at askhealth&wellnesssiteservices@suncor.com for further guidance.

Please note:

  • If you fail to pass the temperature screening, you will need a medical certificate stating your elevated temperature was not because of COVID-19 before you are allowed through the checkpoint over the next 14 days. A negative COVID-19 test does not qualify as medical clearance.
  • The temperature screening will be conducted with a touchless hand-held device. If a you request additional privacy for the temperature check, you will be taken to an area with additional privacy.
  • Masks are still required inside the terminal and are mandatory past security checkpoints. Temperature checks are one more safety measure and do not eliminate the need for masks.

The screening program will continue indefinitely. For additional information please visit the CATSA website.

Thank you to all Suncor volunteers and contractors who helped with our own temperature screening processes!

Thank you and travel safe,
