Information on Boeing 737 – MAX 8 Aircraft

Transport Canada issued a safety notice March 13, 2019 to restrict any “commercial passenger flights from any air operator, both domestic and foreign, of the Boeing 737 – MAX 8 and 9 aircraft from arriving, departing, or overflying Canadian airspace”. The directive will in effect, close Canadian airspace to this aircraft type.

Charter Passengers / FIFO

The Suncor FIFO charter flight program does not utilize 737 – MAX 8 or 737 – MAX 9 aircraft types in this service. However, passengers may experience minor delays due to movement of aircraft within the WestJet fleet and is normal for any type of irregular operations such as this.

We are working closely with West Jet and expect to see minimal impact. Travellers will be contacted for any delays over 90 minutes and if required, make different arrangements with their supervisor or commercial travel company. As always, travellers should monitor their flight status closely for specific updates.

Commercial Passengers

Suncor passengers booked on commercial flights with North American air carriers are advised that re-accommodation where 737- MAX 8 or 737 – MAX 9 flights have been grounded, will be facilitated through AMEX corporate travel.

Passengers are reminded to arrive at check-in 90 minutes before departure time to allow ample time for check-in, baggage and security processes.
